Fer′ry-bridge.

A form of ferry-boat in which the railway-train moves on to the elevated deck, is transported across the water, and then lands upon the other side. Tramways forming inclined approaches are adjustable to the requirements of different stages of water in the river, or states of the tide in estuaries. The ferry-bridge which preceded the present bridge over the Susquchanna at Havrede-Grace is a notable instance.

Ferry-bridges are also to be found in Europe, which cross by means of chains laid across the river, and chain-wheels on board rotated by an engine.
