Clove-hitch.


Nautical.) Two half-hitches. A half-hitch is to give the rope a turn around the object, pass the end of the rope round its standingpart, and then through the bight. To make a clove-hitch, repeat the motion around the standing part and through the bight, and stop the end to the standing-part. See hitch.
