Muzza for Old Virginia.

Major Joseph Selden, late of the United States Army, has sent in his resignation, and placed, himself at the disposal of his own State, Major Selden is a native of this city, and is as well known to our citizens generally as any person who ever resided in it. He was not only one of the most gallant officers in the whole Army that fought in Mexico, but he is personally one of the most popular men we ever know. He was with General Taylor, at the battles of Palo Alto, Resaca de la Palma, and Monterey, and was wounded in the first of these engagements. Transferred to the Army under General Scott, he was at the siege of Vera Cruz, at the battle of Cerro Gordo, at Jalapa, and at all the fights until Chepultepec. At the last named he was desperately wounded in a daring attempt to scale the walls, and thus became disqualified for active service for several weeks. Before he was able to take the field again, the war was over. Virginia never produced a braver or a truer man than Major Joseph Selden.

Another.

Col. John B. Magruder has resigned his commission in the U. S. Army, end offered his services to his native State. Col. M. is a graduate of West Point, to which school he removed from the University of Virginia, in 1826. He served in the artillery during the Mexican war, and distinguished himself highly in that service, having won several brevets by his gallantry and intelligence. He fought in all the battles from Vera Cruz to Mexico, and displayed all the qualities of a consummate officer.

Yet another.

Maj. Robt. S. Garnett has left the service of the United States and taken up that of his native State. He was in nearly all the battles of the Mexican war, and distingushed himself in all.

Another again!

"What? will the line stretch out to the crack of doom?"

Major Samuel Anderson has resigned and takes service under his native State. Major Anderson is a native of Buckingham county, in this State. He is a most gallant officer, worthy to rank with the bravest in our service. He was in most of the Mexican battles, and received two brevets for gallantry and good conduct.
