ῥεῖ is equiv. to “ψῇ” in 678. The wool shrivels away; and presently there is nothing to be seen but a powder, like saw-dust, on the ground. For “ῥεῖν”, cp. O. C.259 n. κατέψηκται: the perf. of instant result: cp. Ph.76“ὄλωλα” (n.). Seneca Herc. Oet. 736 “Dumque ipsa miror, causa mirandi perit.”
