ὡς δ᾽ οἶδα ταῦτα “κ.τ.λ.” The report of the prophecy given by the pretended “ἔμπορος” in 603—613 was true as far as it went, but designedly incomplete. Neoptolemus, we must suppose, derived his knowledge from the Atreidae or Odysseus (cp. 114 “ὡς ἐφάσκετ̓”): who, however, had omitted to tell him that the aid of the bow was indispensable to his own success (112 ff.).
