Cheap coal — New railroad.
--The
Petersburg Inder is exercised as to the coal question, and flatters its readers that there is "a good time coming." It says:
‘
"We are happy to be able to inform our readers that the hope expressed in the
Index, some two months ago, respecting the extension of the
Clover Hill railroad to the river, is about to be realized.
The necessary point for the river terminus has, we learn, been secured, and the committee to whom the matter was referred are prepared to recommend the extension forthwith.
"A gentleman connected with the pits in the neighborhood of
Danville was in the city last Saturday, endeavoring to make an arrangement whereby through transportation can be secured for his coal to this city.
If this can be effected, we can promise the people of
Petersburg cheaper fuel hereafter."
