Brisk volunteering.
--The following from the Louisville
Journal is really a truthful (rare article for that paper!) account of how volunteering for the
Yankees is progressing in that section of the
State:
To the Editors of the Louisville Journal:
Camp All Pay, Oct. 30, 1861.
Gentlemen: We are getting up a company of 100 captains and 4 high privates.
We will draw three months wages in advance.
We have our quota of captains, but find great difficulty in getting the high
privates Large regiments of colonels might be raised in this way, and thus put down the rebellion that the preachers, editors, teachers, and politicians have brought upon us.
Respectfully yours,
Home Guard Reserve.
