The recent snow.

--The snow at Charleston, S. C., Tuesday, was two inches deep.-- The fig trees are badly frost-bitten. At Aiken, S. C., it was six inches deep, and at Sumterville, in the same State, five inches--the deepest snow that has fallen there since 1815.

The Portsmouth (Va.,) Transcript says:

‘ The effects of the late storm are beginning to be ascertained. We conversed yesterday with a gentleman from the county, who has one of the largest orchards in lower Virginia, and is extensively engaged in trucking, and he informed us that his fruit, tomatoes and peas, have been almost totally destroyed. Of peaches he does not expect to have enough to make a pie.
