I. To taste beforehand (poet. and in post-Aug. prose): “cibos,” Ov. Am. 1, 4, 33; Plin. 21, 3, 9, § 12: “pocula,” Juv. 6, 633: “potum regis,” Just. 12, 14: “caro bestiis praegustata,” Vulg. Exod. 22, 31.—
II. In gen., to take, eat, or drink beforehand: “medicamina, for antidota,” Juv. 6, 660.
