Stabbing
--Joseph Rick, arrested for feloniously stabbing and wounding
Henry B. Craft, on Monday last, was examined before the
Mayor yesterday.
The evidence showed that Rick had that morning assaulted and beaten
Margaret Miller, a cyprian, who boarded in his house, and that his wife had informed Craft, who was a friend and visitor of
Miss Miller, of what her husband had done.
Craft, on hearing what had occurred, entered the house and asked Rick if he had struck the girl.
Rick replied, "You had better carry her away from here, if you do not wish me to strike her." Craft then said he would allow no one to strike her, whereupon Rick drew his knife, gave Craft two stabs in his right breast.
Craft sprang back and drew his pistol, seeing which Rick ran off. The
Mayor sent the accused on to a called Court to be held next Monday, and refused him bail.
