Charge of Treason.

--Theodore Goodall, at one time Provost detective under General Winder, was before the Mayor last Saturday on the charge of being in the employ of the U. S. Government, and furnishing information to that Government, etc. When the case was called, it was ascertained that the witness on whom the Mayor relied was confined to her bed from indisposition, and could not appear. Mr. Gilmer, the counsel of the accused, raised the question of jurisdiction with the Mayor, and asked his Honor to transfer the prisoner to the Confederate authorities, the offence charged being against that Government, and not against the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr. Gilmer cited the authorities noticed by us on Friday morning to sustain his motion, and submitted the question to the Court.

The Mayor, after duly considering the points raised, decided that the case was one of which he was required to take cognizance; that the prisoner had been before the Circuit Judge on a writ of habeas corpus, and had been refused a discharge because of the fact that the Commonwealth had not been allowed time to make out her case. He should, therefore, adjourn the examination and commit the accused.
