The Yankee visit to Claremont — a lying correspondent exposed.

To the Editors of the Dispatch:
I observed in yesterday's Dispatch an article copied from the New York Herald, headed ‘"The Yankees, Visit Charemont."’ Commander Harris sent, as stated, a boat's crew from each vessel, which consisted of four huge, bare footed negroes, as black as the d — l is said to be, armed with muskets, and commanded by a white nigger--the meanest of the crew. This formidable force arrested the writer, (who was without arms,) and escorted him through the grounds to a lane leading to the wharf, at which point he was halted until the officer reported his daring feat, and the objections urged against such a dastardly outrage. On his return the order was: ‘"Nothing to be taken but beef cattle, for something fresh for the boys at City Point."’ The Herald's correspondent forgot to mention that the cattle thieves stole one small beef and four Confederate postage stamps — value of the latter 20 cents--and if they fight as much in earnest as they begged for whiskey, I have no doubt their efforts would invariably be crowned with victory, which was not the case as regards the whiskey.

If you think the above will add anything to the infamous reputation already enjoyed by the Yankees, you can give it publicity in your paper.

Your obd't serv't.
