Chance to Cagr the Baboon.
--
The Potomac correspondent of the Charleston
Mercury says that if we could cross the
Potomac with two
corps d armee, one above and one below
Washington, we might cage the
Illinois monster.
We lost the chance once of capturing him after the battle of Menassa; it is to be hoped we may have another opportunity.
It has been suggested — and I think the suggestion a good one--that in the event of a movement on
Washington, a very handsome reward be secretly offered to some of the most daring and cunning of our troops, some such fellows as the
Louisiana Tigers, for the capture of
Lincoln; and a corresponding reward might be offered for
Seward and
Blair, or the rest of the
Cabinet.
I think we have the men who could bag some or all of these Yankee dignitaries.
