At Fairfield to day about 400 persons attempted to raise the Stars and Stripes, but were successfully resisted. A flgat ensued.--Two peace men, Wildman and Graham, were seriously wounded. Snovels, pick-axes and stones were used, but no fire-arms. The peace flag is flying, and there is great excitement.

New York, Aug. 23--The British brig Andover has arrived. She was boarded off Cape Hatteras by a nameless privateer, which reported that she had two prizes in the inlet.--She and two other privateers were watching a Federal war brig, with the intention of attacking her. These privateers (say our Black Republican authorities) are apparently Eastern men.

New York, Aug. 23.--Thos. J. Carrow and W. M. Pegram, of Baltimore, and W. J. Kelly, have been arrested. Mr. Kelley had various bills of sale dated at Richmond in pockets in his shirt.
