In camp at Poolesville, Md., through winter of 1861-62; in Shenandoah Valley campaign in Mar.; Peninsular campaign, Seven Days battles, Va. Engaged at Chantilly, South Mountain and Antietam. Wounded at Nelson's Farm, June 30, 1862. First Lieutenant, Aug. 1, 1862. Present at the battle of Fredericksburg; wounded twice at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863. In command at the battle of Spotsylvania; present at the battle of Weldon Railroad, battles of the Wilderness, North Anna, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. Captain, May 1, 1863. Major, June 20, 1864. Died at Philadelphia, Penn., Sept. 10, 1864, of wounds received, Aug. 17, 1864, in the battle of Deep Bottom, Va. Brevet Lieut. Colonel, Colonel and Brig. General, U. S. Volunteers, Mar. 13, 1865.


Peirson, Charles Lawrence.

Born in Massachusetts. First Lieutenant, Adjutant, 20th Mass. Infantry, July 1, 1861. Made prisoner at the battle of Ball's Bluff, Oct. 21, 1861. Served on the staffs of Brig. General N. J. T. Dana, and Maj. General John Sedgwick, through all McClellan's battles before Richmond, until the retirement of the Army of the Potomac to Harrison's Landing. Lieut. Colonel, 39th Mass. Infantry, Aug. 30, 1862. On duty on the upper Potomac till after the battle of Gettysburg. Wounded at the battle of Spotsylvania, May 10, 1864. Severely wounded at the battle of the Weldon Railroad. Colonel, Aug. 19, 1864. Resigned, Jan. 11, 1865. Brevet Colonel, and Brig. General, U. S. Volunteers, Mar. 13, 1865.


Pickett, Josiah.

Born at Beverly, Mass., Nov. 21, 1822. First Lieutenant, 3d Battalion Riflemen, M. V. M., in service of the U. S., Apr. 19, 1861. Mustered out; Aug. 3, 1861. Captain, 25th Mass. Infantry, Oct. 12, 1861. Served term of three months at Fort McHenry, Md. Major, Mar. 20, 1862. Colonel, Oct. 29, 1862. Served in North Carolina, from Oct., 1861, to Jan., 1865. Present at the battle of Cold Harbor, Va., where he was severely wounded. Brevet Brig. General, U. S. Volunteers, June 3, 1864. Mustered out, Jan. 10, 1865.


Plummer, Joseph Bennett.

Born at Barre, Mass., Aug. 10, 1820. Cadet, U. S. Military Academy, July 1, 1837, to July 1, 1841. Second Lieutenant, 1st U. S. Infantry, July 1, 1841. First Lieutenant, Mar. 15, 1848. Captain, May 1, 1852. In operations in Missouri; engaged in the battle of Wilson's Creek, Aug. 10, 1861, where he was severely wounded; and retreat to Rolla, Aug., 1861. Colonel, 11th Mo. Infantry, Sept. 25, 1861. Engaged in the combat of Fredericktown (in command), Oct. 21, 1861. Brig. General, U. S. Volunteers, Oct. 22, 1861. In command of Cape Girardeau, Nov., 1861, to Mar. 1, 1862; engaged in march from Commerce to New Madrid, Mar., 1862, and in occupation of Point Pleasant, constantly skirmishing with the enemy's gunboats and repulsing many attempts to land till Apr. 7, 1862. On expedition to Fort Pillow, Apr., 1862. Major, 8th U. S. Infantry, Apr. 25, 1862. In the Mississippi campaign, Apr. to Aug., 1862; being engaged in the advance upon, and siege of Corinth, Apr. 22 to May 30; including action, May 28, 1862, and pursuit of rebel army under Beauregard, to Boonville, Miss., June 1-11, 1862. Died near Corinth, Miss., Aug. 9, 1862.


Potter, Carroll Hagadorn.

Born in Rhode Island. Appointed from Massachusetts. Cadet, U. S. Military Academy, July 1, 1855, to Jan. 15, 1857. Captain, Assistant Adj. General, U. S. Volunteers, Oct. 21, 1861; accepted, Oct. 23, 1861. Served on the staff of General Jameson in the Peninsular campaign. Chief of staff to Generals Robinson, Stoneman, Heintzelman and others. Potter, Robert Barnwell.

Born at Boston, Mass., July 16, 1829. Major, 51st N. Y. Infantry, Oct. 14, 1861. Led the assault of Roanoke Island; was wounded at New Berne. Commanded his regiment at Cedar Mountain, Manassas and Chantilly. Engaged in the battle of Antietam (wounded).
