οὐ ῥᾳδίως διετέθη—a characteristic instance of the manner of Thuc., who never dwells on the details of outrages. In Ath. Pol. the story of Aristogeiton's torture and stabbing by Hippias is given at length. Thuc. says only ‘he was harshly treated.’
