μέγαν “great,” i.e. strong, worthy of reverence, ἐν ὅρκῳ, by means of, in virtue of, his oath: Eur. Tro. 669 “ξυνέσει γένει πλούτῳ τε κἀνδρείᾳ μέγαν”: for ἐν, cp. Soph. Phil. 185 “ἔν τ᾽ ὀδύναις ὁμοῦ ι λιμῷ τ᾽ οἰκτρός.”
