Nettleton, Alured Bayard 1838-

Journalist; born in Berlin, O., Nov. 14, 1838; was educated at Oberlin College; entered the Union army as a private in the 2d Ohio [367] Cavalry at the beginning of the Civil War; and was promoted colonel and brevet-brigadier-general. During the war he took part in seventy-two battles and minor actions. In 1890-93 was assistant Secretary of the United States Treasury; and for some time after the death of Secretary Windom was acting Secretary
