ἀπειθ-έω , Att. form of ἀπι^θέω (though even Trag. preferred ἀπιστέω, q.v. 11),
A.to be disobedient, refuse compliance, A.Ag.1049; opp. πείθομαι, Pl.Phdr.271b: freq. c. dat., disobey, “οὐκ ἀπειθήσας θεῷ” E.Or.31; “ἀ. ἅμα νόμῳ καὶ τῷ θεῷ” Pl.Lg.741d, etc.; τὰ μεγάλα ἀ. τινί in great matters, Id.R.538b; ἀ. ταῖς ἐνεχυρασίαις not to abide by them, Id.Lg.949d: later c. gen., “ψαφίσματος” GDI3705.111 (Cos); “ἐντολῶν” LXXJo.5.6.
