From Northern Virginia.
The reports which we have from our own and the enemy's forces from day to day very so materially that it is difficult to say whether or not there is any probability of an early engagement.
One evening we are told that a general fight is imminent, and that the army is in line of battle, and the next we are informed that there is nothing to indicate that a fight is likely to occur.
Passengers who came down yesterday afternoon report everything as quiet, and state that the impression prevails in our army that the enemy's forces are failing back.

Whatever their operations North of Gordonsville may indicate, it is not reasonable to expect that a movement against Richmond would be attempted

This, he replied, he had no authority to do, but he would stop the sale of the articles until he could call the Council together and learn their wishes in regard to the matter.
The meeting was called for yesterday evening, with the result above stated.
Judging from what passed yesterday, we suppose the Council may signify its willingness to dispose of the coats at prime cost to the committee, retaining a sufficient number to su

Foster (search for this): article 1
The Yankees Menacing Weldon. Raleigh, Nov. 12.
--The Yankees have evacuated Greenville, after partially destroying the bridge across the river, taking nine of the citizens with them.
They desisted in destroying the bridge at the entreaties of the people.
An official dispatch says the enemy have also left Plymouth.
Their destination is probably Weldon or Petersburg, as they are supposed to have gone up the Chowan.
Foster commands the expedition.
