Attempt to cross the lines. --Dr. John Cooley was committed to Castle Thunder on Saturday, charged with attempting to cross our lines into Yankee land. Dr. Cooley is a native and resident of this city. On Friday morning, he managed, by some means, to get on the Fredericksburg train at the depot on Broad street, without obtaining a passport, and reached Milford station before his delinquency was discovered and he put under arrest. A short while after the train left Milford, on its return to Richmond with the prisoner on board, he borrowed a pocket-knife from a gentleman sitting by, and with it stabbed himself in the left breast before any one present had the slightest intimation of his intention. The wound is not considered a dangerous one, though from loss of blood at the time he fainted in the car. Dr. Cooley was an assistant surgeon in one of the hospitals in this city.
