France--Army, 600,000 men; 170 field batteries; guards, 30,000 men; navy, 425 vessels and 30,000 sailors. derived from authentic sources says no movement of the Administration now in progress involves hostile designs. It is generally believed that the military status of the Gulf will be preserved. The Senate confirmed the following nominations by the President to-day : Chas. Francis Adams, Minister to England; Marsh, of Vermont, Minister to Sardinia; Jas. Watson Webb, Minister to Constantinople; H. S. Sanford, of Connecticut, Minister to Belgium; Mr. Thayer, of New York, Consul-General to Egypt; Capt. J. Devine, Consul to Cork; Mr. Defries, Superintendent of Printing. Nominations have been made by the President of Anson Burlingame, Minister to Austria; Rufus King, of Wisconsin, Minister to Rome; Bradford R. Wood, of New York, Consul to Belgium; Jas. O. Putnam, of N. York, Consul to Havre; Freeman A. Morse, of Me., Consul to London; J. W. Nye, of New York, Governor of Nevada. Capt. Frazer, of Mississippi, and Lt. O. Bannon, of South Carolina, U. S. A., have both resigned.

Mr. Hall stands high in character and moral worth, but it is alleged that his anti-slavery sentiments are too strong for Southern latitude.
