It is not a great many years since the mere suggestion of any Western achievement in literature would have called out such anecdotes as belonged to the time when Senator Blackburn and Colonel Pepper of whiskeymaking fame are said to have been talking about horses at Washington; and Representative Crane of Texas asked them, Why do you not talk of something else?
