ough. The case of John Kelley, for stealing a gold watch, worth $100, from John Whitehurst, was continued until the 14th. Also, the case of Wm Sparry, for committing an assault on officer Morris while performing his lawful duty. Pat Mulligan, for assaulting R. H. Shumate and resisting officer Morris, was committed to await the action of the grand jury. Philip Harner was required to give security for assaulting and beating Wm. McCummack with a rock. The examination of Robert Martin for receiving four pieces of gold stolen from Jacobs, knowing the same to have been stolen, was dismissed. Charles Amey was examined and sent on to be tried before Judge Lyons for stealing two boxes of tobacco from Kent & Wilson, at their factory, in Rose alley. Defendant sold the tobacco to a man named Heckler, who testified to the fact. James A. Perdue and Harrison Balley were remanded for final trial, on the charge of stealing four hats from Powhatan Weisiger. J
