Anecdote of hay on, --It is said that during Haydn's sojourn in London in 1790, in which time he was to compose twelve grand symphonies for Solomon's concerts, the following incident occurred: Passing along the Strand, his path was arrested by men tossing bundles of firewood from one to another. The melodious intervals of the numbers chanted and repeated by the men were jotted down, and afterwards adopted in the finale to his seventh grand symphony.
