he was duly installed in his present position in September, 1876. Assistants. The first assistant employed in the school was Miss Sarah E. Sparrell, who taught twenty-three weeks, from April 6 to September 28, 1839, at one dollar per week. The wages indicate that Miss Sparrell was but an Assistant pupil, though many a district school in the country was then being taught for a stipend equally or even more paltry. Her successors were:— Miss Eliza S. Forbes, from May 11 to November 29, 1841. Miss Frances Gregg, from December 13, 1841, to March 12, 1846. Miss Angelina Wellington, from March 24 to May 19. 1846.
