Vi'bius Vi'rrius
of Capua, induced his countrymen to revolt from the Romans and to espouse the cause of Hannibal after the battle of Cannae, B. C. 216. When Capua, after its long siege by the Romans, could hold out no longer, B. C. 211, Vibius recommended the senators to put themselves to death, rather than fall into the power of the Romans. Twenty-seven of the senators resolved to follow his advice, and accompanied him to his house, where after a sumptuous banquet they all took poison. (Liv. 23.6, 26.13, 14.)
