Wm. Preston has been appointed and confirmed by the Governor and Legislative Council of Kentucky, Major-General of the forces of the State co-operating with the Confederate force against Lincolndom. The Hon Thomas Purse, Mayor of Savannah, was united in marriage to Miss Josephine A. Felt, of that city, on Thursday, the 2d inst., by the Rev. Sylvanus Landrum. A dispatch to the Cincinnati Gazette, dated December 30th, says that "the Union troops were driven from Sutton, Va., by the rebels yesterday, and the post given up." Madame Anna Bishop, now in her 62d year, is giving concerts at Louisville, Ky. Her voice is said to be as charming as ever, but her face is wrinkled, and her embonpoint has greatly increased. The State Convention of South Carolina, which has been in session some time, adjourned on Wednesday last, to meet again at Columbia on the second Tuesday in January, 1863, unless sooner convened at the call of the President.
