Decoration Description:
Side A: Peleus and Thetis. In the center, Peleus wrestles Thetis to make her his wife. A small lion biting Peleus' upper arm represents one of the creatures Thetis transformed herself into to escape his attacks. Peleus wears a short chiton, Thetis a chiton and himation, her hair in a sakkos. To either side, Nereids flee, holding their arms high in distress, some holding dolphins and fish.
Side B: Nereids run to their father Nereus, and one clasps his head and beseeches him for help.
Tondo: Herakles resting while Athena pours him a drink. Herakles sits on a rock, wearing a lion skin over his head, and holds out a kantharos. He holds his left hand up, gesturing. Athena, standing before him, pours wine from a trefoil oinochoe. She wears a diadem and holds her owl in her left hand, while her spear rests in her arm and her helmet is set on a rock beside her. Behind the two, an olive tree.
